Web Design FAQ

Freelancer - A person who sells services to employers without a long-term commitment to any of them. Freelance web design is selling web design services to private clients. Freelance Web Design does not mean that there are no contracts or written agreements, but it does mean a cheaper and more customized web site for you. What is Web Hosting?
A business providing hardware and services to store, maintain, and present Web sites and provide Internet connection to those sites. As a freelancer in Nepal, I do not provide web hosting solutions to my clients. However, I play a big role in setting up their web site with their own choice of web hosting company.

What is Domain Name?
A unique series of alphanumeric characters separated by periods, in the form of domain.com that is an address of a computer network connection.

What is IP Address?
Internet Protocol addresses are numeric addresses, such as 123.323.23.1, that specifies the location of a particular networked server. hems.com.np can be used to determine your IP address.

What is DNS?
Domain Name System - A distributed, replicated, data query service chiefly used on the Internet for translating hostnames/domain names into IP addresses. DNS charges usually consist of an annual charge of $10, please be aware the prices vary depending on the domain name.

It is the process of increasing the amount of visitors to a Web site by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user. It is common practice for Internet users to not click through pages and pages of search results, so where a site ranks in a search is essential for directing more traffic toward the site.
SEO helps to ensure that a site is accessible to a search engine and improves the chances that the site will be found by the search engine.

XHTML
Short for Extensible Hypertext Markup Language, a hybrid between HTML and XML specifically designed for Net device displays. When applied to Net devices, XHTML must go through a modularization process. This enables XHTML pages to be read by many different platforms. A device designer, using standard building blocks, will specify which elements are supported. Content creators will then target these building blocks--or modules. Because these modules conform to certain standards, XHTML's extensibility ensures that layout and presentation stay true-to-form over any platform. As a web design freelancer, most of my web sites that I code are validated in XHTML Transitional.

CSS
Short for Cascading Style Sheets, a new feature being added to HTML that gives both Web site developers and users more control over how pages are displayed. With CSS, designers and users can create style sheets that define how different elements, such as headers and links, appear. These style sheets can then be applied to any Web page.As a web design freelancer all my web sites that I code are driven from a Cascading Style Sheet.

PHP
Self-referentially short for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, an open source, server-side, HTML embedded scripting language used to create dynamic Web pages.
PHP can perform any task that any CGI program can do, but its strength lies in its compatibility with many types of databases. Also, PHP can talk across networks using IMAP, SNMP, NNTP, POP3, or HTTP.
